Trago Mills pumpkins

Back in the spring we held a free kids planting competition at Trago Mills Garden Park for young aspiring gardeners. The children were all given a pot and we supplied the compost and a giant variety of pumpkin seeds. These were planted up on the day and the children were encouraged to take them home and tend to them until the seedlings were ready to be pricked out and planted into the garden.

We had well over a hundred entries and although 2011 was far from the best of growing seasons, we wrote in the Autumn to them all and invited them back to the Garden Park for our Grand Weigh In. The seven best entries were convened and the First Prize of £150.00 in Trago vouchers was won by Emily Finnie aged 9 from Plymouth for her 13.46kg specimen, Second Prize and recipient of £75.00 and so narrowly beaten to first place with his entry weighing in at 13.39 kg was Teignmouth’s Max Wheeler aged 8. And in third place was Aimee Gegg from Budleigh Salterton with her 11.4kg Pumpkin.
